The artist has donated the complete sum of his £25,000 honor winnings to the MVT, which operates to protect the UK's independent concert spaces.

Fender was awarded the award on October 16 as his third album his work was named the best record of the previous year.

Fender has opted to donate the funds to the trust, in acknowledgment of the vital role small stages had in his initial steps.

"I personally would not have achieved my current career if it weren't for all the gigs I played around the North East, and further afield, when I was starting out," remarked Fender. "These venues are legendary, but they are facing challenges."

Beginning in 2023, over 150 of these locations have permanently closed – approximately 16% of the entire UK sector.

Recently, well-known musicians such as Pulp, the group Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all backed the Music Venues Trust in its initiatives to keep the scene afloat, by including a small levy to their ticket costs, which benefits smaller concert halls.

Fender also took part, raising more than £100,000 on his 2024 arena tour to assist 38 grassroots venues across the UK.

The donation helped spaces that were facing possible closure due to difficulties arising from floods, fire incidents and family tragedies, as well as regulatory hurdles, court cases and noise complaints.

Additional spaces were granted monetary aid in improving amenities and sound and lighting systems that helped performers and fans.

"The idea that revenue from concerts in large arenas supports the local stages, where it begins for musicians like me, is just common sense," the star has commented.

The musician is far from the only musician to donate his honor funds to charitable organizations.

In they earned the award in the mid-90s for their album their work, frontman Jarvis Cocker stated that the group would donate their cash to the charity War Child.

That year, rapper and singer the artist divided her bounty between multiple charities, including the children's charity and a charity for Sickle Cell.

"And I donated a thousand pounds to my local community centre, to their gymnastics class, because I trained in gymnastics when I was a child and they lacked new equipment," she shared with outlets.

Previously, Ezra Collective contributed their prize money to the youth organization that supported their act, alongside other grassroots music organisations.

Also 1994 winners they contributed their prize to a MS organization after a friend was diagnosed the illness.

"The victory was sufficient," remarked singer Small. "The prize was the extra but we didn't require the bonus, because we had the main prize. So our victory affected another person's life."

In the past week, the MVT announced it had rescued several grassroots venues in that region, by bringing them into public stewardship.

One venue in Southampton and the other in Bristol were acquired under the community ownership program, which is backed by a national body and supporters who purchase "stakes" in the properties.
